Leader of a human colony planet, Taryn Demara has much more on her plate than maintaining peace or ensuring her people have enough to eat. I adore science fiction and addicted to steamy romance but throw in a generous helping of thrilling adventure seasoned with heart-pounding action, and I'm in heaven... especially when it's women kicking butt and taking names! lol... And Jessie Donovan has just delivered the perfect combination of every single one of these elements! Be still my heart! This is not my first rodeo with Jessie Donovan, so my expectations were high... and Donovan didn't disappoint! It's no secret I'm a diehard Donovan fan and have been for years, but who knew she could write such fabulous science fiction romance! I have quite a few favorite authors and, usually, they're different for each genre. Not every author who writes contemporary or paranormal romance can pen great science fiction, no matter how talented or skilled they are. Each author must find their own niche and, make no mistake, Donovan writes fabulous paranormal romance but, oh my goodness, she totally nailed it with her very first offering in a brand new romantic sci-fi series! I'm completely smitten with the Kelderan Runic Warriors Series.
The Conquest is a riveting, fast-paced, exceptionally well-crafted full-length standalone science fiction romance. The narrative is beautifully written in the third person with clearly defined his and her perspectives. The dialogue is smart, snappy, well executed, easy to follow, and flows effortlessly. I was completely fascinated by the premise for this new series but it's the large diverse cast of engaging characters who literally exploded from the pages, ensnared my imagination and completely captured my heart. Who doesn't love beautiful, brave, strong-willed warrior heroines and courageous, protective, handsome and oh so sexy heroes, right? I was immediately drawn into the story during the first few pages and fell head over heels for the two protagonists, Kelderan Prince Kason tro el Vallen and Jasvarian Colony leader Taryn Demara . Kason is a prince from a patriarchal society where women are to be seen and not heard, whereas Taryn, by necessity, governs a matriarchal colony. These two were polar opposites, yet they were a perfect pairing. Their attraction was immediate, their interaction captivating, their sexual chemistry electric, their passion explosive and their fate undeniable despite their differences and the danger surrounding them. The connection between these two remarkable characters literally sizzled!
Did I like this book? No, I LOVED it! The Conquest is a captivating science fiction adventure romance with an untypical take on the ‘Battle of the Sexes’ and includes a generous helping of action, adventure, danger, and drama along with some hot alien males who thinks the little woman’s place should always be at home as well as some smart plucky heroines who don’t mind using all their assets. And, of course, some smokin’ hot romance... This is a Jessie Donovan story we're talking about! This book gives a whole new meaning to 'Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus'! lol.... Let the games begin! Would I recommend it? You bet and I am but only for adult readers since it does contain some steamy love scenes. Will I read this author again? Duh....Of course! Just as soon as she releases her next book! And finally was I entertained? Completely! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome reader! I can hardly wait for the next book in the series!

Usually the Sci-Fi story is about a shortage of the females, with the males of the alien species desiring human females from earth. The ups and downs in acquiring their mates, falling in romantic love, and fighting off rivals, enemies, and even family members usually provides enough interesting scenarios that I am captivated enough to finish the book. Enjoy!
This is my first time reading this author. The book was on my recommendation list and I thought the blurb was interesting. The writing was well done. The characters were relatable, the romance decent...But I felt like everything was too easy. Two separate alien beings, world conflicts, life and death situations affecting everyone around...But everything can be solved by showing a bit of tit and "good effort". You have to be in the right mind frame for this story and I just don't think I was able to quite suspend reality to the extent that I needed to in order to enjoy this book.
Seems like lately all the books being offered are listed as adult books but in reality are NA books about young people acting like young people and being treated that way. I couldn't even finish several of them. Western, paranormal-dragons, even a BDSM boxed set, it didn't matter! I was getting very frustrated! 4 stars just for that alone! End of soapbox speech!
Taryn, leader of the human colony and the rest of her people have resorted to kidnapping eligible men when they come to her planet to save their civilization. Prince Kason and his landing party are taken prisoner, but are released when an agreement is reached to strike a treaty to bring more of his people there. In the resulting story she proves to him that she is a strong and cunning woman and that maybe his traditional beliefs about women need to change. A very good story and I would read more of this series.

As Leader of a lost colony from Earth Colony Alliance, Taryn Demara faces many challenges daily. Like trying to stay alive, finding food, keep her people safe, but the biggest of them all is extinction. Their male population is dwindling. Due to a virus that affects male fetuses before birth, men are in short supply. Add in aging and dying technology that has seen its better years, you would think Planet Jasvar is doomed. Not so fast I say! These spirited colonial women were not born yesterday. They attract visiting alien males to sit and stay awhile by using feminine wiles to the extreme! It’s been almost a decade since a ship has been spotted on radar. Time to fish or cut bait as they say! But these females are not pushovers, they are survivors!
Enter Prince Kason de Vallen, younger son of the ruler from planet Keldar. He’s on mission to find out what out just what happened to the Scientists they sent to Planet Jasvar. The ones who never returned. Nor were they heard from. Planet Keldar has an overpopulation problem. Jasvar is one suitable planet they were looking at to colonize, thus easing their burden of too many beings in one place. Some Keldarians think Jasvar is cursed because their people never returned. Prince Kason is young but he was not born yesterday either. He just wants to know the truth.
Different cultures, opposite problems, and both trying to survive. You would think they would be able to meet each other’s needs. But there are other twists to this story. Another alien group has conquest in mind, they have been spotted near Planet Keldar and are real nasty beings enslaving and killing. Planet Keldar is not without its problems, civil unrest due to overcrowding and a long history of one family rule has made some on Keldar question the status quo. And there is the Earth Colony Alliance out there, are they wanting to know what happened to their people too? Needless to say many questions, not enough answers!
Jessie Donovan has again struck gold. And the reader is the very much a winner! Crafting a different view on aliens, space and colonization, she takes fraternization to new highs. Her method of showing us hunky males who lust after strong alpha females that know when to choose their battles, is fun to read. I look forward to more books in the series and find out just where the journey takes us!
